REX Virtual Café is an online community for Ontario’s youth sector stakeholders – youth workers (frontline and management), youth leaders, policy makers, and researchers – to connect, network, share, and find resources.

The Virtual Café provides registered members with an opportunity to network with other youth sector stakeholders and participate in critical conversations in Communities of Practice (CoPs) on issues that can improve the wellbeing of youth.

They can access and share happenings, such as events and opportunities and job and volunteer postings, on a Community Board. All members agree to adhere to the terms of service for this virtual café.
Membership in REX Virtual Café is geared towards Ontario youth sector stakeholders, including:
  • youth workers, volunteers, and managers at youth organizations/programs or at multi-service organizations that work with/serve youth;
  • undergraduate, graduate, and college students;
  • researchers and/or evaluators; and
  • policy-makers and funders.
When you register, you can create a profile, and you can choose to share details about your work in your profile bio.

All of the content on REX Virtual Café is public, including the Members directory, but you can only post and engage with content or interact with other members when you register as a member.
New members can register by clicking on the “Sign up” button located at the top right corner at Cafe.YouthREX.com. You can register by email or by using your existing Facebook or Google account. Visit our Getting Started Guide for more details.
By registering for REX Virtual Café, you are committing to the terms of service for this forum.

YouthREX reserves the right to modify our terms of service at any time. If there are changes to the terms of service for use of the Virtual Café, all registered members will be notified of the change(s); their continued use of the platform will imply their acceptance of the revised terms of service. Members can delete their user accounts at any time.
Yes! You can view and search the Members directory, accessible from the menu at the top of the platform; the directory allows you to search by first name, last name, service area, and/or keyword. REX Virtual Café is public, so anyone can view the Members directory and read posts across discussion threads, but you can only connect with, follow, and send direct messages to other members when you have registered. You can also only post and engage with content when you have registered.

Members will be able to see your profile information and connect with you directly. You can see when members are online, and they can see when you are online; a tiny green circle at the top right corner of a member’s profile picture or avatar indicates that they are online.

Much like on a social networking site, members can send connection requests to one another, which enables sending/receiving private direct messages, and members can follow the activity of any other members.
Communities are Communities of Practice (CoPs) that members can join to participate in discussions with other members.

There is also a Community Board where members can share and learn what is happening in Ontario’s youth sector, such as job and volunteer openings, events, funding requests, professional development opportunities, and youth sector news.

You can view all of REX Virtual Café’s Communities by clicking on the menu title at the top of the platform. You will then notice a sub-heading that also allows you to view the Communities (also known as Groups) to which you belong. You can join as many Communities as you like!

Discussions are Forums, or conversation questions and subjects, to which members can contribute. Discussions are categorized by Community. Members can Reply to posts within Discussions or create new Discussions.

Members can contribute by posting to a variety of discussions related to several practice topics. You can view all of the Discussions taking place across REX Virtual Café by clicking on the menu title at the top of the platform.

If you would like to suggest a new Community (CoP), please contact community@youthrex.com. Thank you!
YouthREX Admin and Animators (who are volunteer members of Ontario’s youth sector) are the moderators of this platform. You can notify YouthREX and the Animators at any time of posts that may violate our community guidelines by contacting Animators directly through the platform or by sending a message to YouthREX at community@youthrex.com.
